Sound system calibration and custom equipment in all three rooms of this new Brussels club.

Located in the very heart of Brussels, we worked with UMI since its very beginning to calibrate and tune their custom-made sound systems in all three of their rooms. We conducted measurements, designed filters and equalisation to let their very dynamic sound systems come alive. UMI also trusted us to build custom phono preamplifiers that are used in their DJ booths instead of built-in mixers preamps.

Custom speaker installation for Brussel's audiophile bar.

On top of their existing vintage Tannoy setup, we designed and built custom high-efficiency two-way speakers. They were made to fit the existing wall furniture and art-deco setting of the bar. Each speaker comprises a 15" woofer and a 2" compression driver mounted on an Arai A-290 horn. The speakers provide a wide horizontal coverage matching the layout of the room. After installation, the speakers were intensively calibrated to the room acoustics. The DJ booth is fitted with discrete 3D-printed monitors for better DJ performance.

Penrose Sound System

British Jamaican-rooted sound system and custom preamplifier.

We started our journey into audio by building and operating our first system. We based ourselves on an existing plan for the 15-inch scoop cabinet, then designed the 12-inch bass reflex and top cabinet. The four voices are amplified separately after digital processing. The system is humble but prompted many branches to explore. We then designed and built a 5-channel preamplifier with 4 bands matching the system cross-over points, giving an unique and purpose-built control to the system.
